GE IC697CPM914 – An Important Component of the 90 – 70 Series PLC
Hardware Performance
- Processor: It adopts an 80486 DX processor with a clock speed of 32 MHz. As a 32 – bit CPU module, it supports floating – point operations, enabling complex mathematical calculations and data processing, thus providing a strong power support for the efficient operation of the PLC.
- Memory: It supports up to 512 kilobytes of Random Access Memory (RAM) and is equipped with an on – board lithium battery for battery backup. This backup can retain memory for 6 months, ensuring that important data and programs will not be lost in case of power failure or system shutdown.
- Power Requirements: It requires a 5 – volt direct current voltage with a rated current of 2.8 amperes, which is supplied by the IC697 PLC rack. When powering the module, it is recommended to use a battery to improve the stability and reliability of the system.
- Communication Ports: It is equipped with an RS – 422/RS – 485 compatible serial port with a 15 – pin D – type connector. This port can be used to connect to the workstation interface of a programming computer, and can also be connected to the serial port of a programming computer through an RS – 422 to RS – 232 converter. In addition, it supports Ethernet connection for CPU programming.
Functional Features
- Scanning Mode: It has new scanning modes, such as the micro – cycle mode, which allows the PLC to maintain the time interval between I/O scans. To achieve efficient processing of I/O scans, the CPU must know the amount of scan to allocate to the output scan. In normal operation, the time required for the output scan of the previous scan is needed to help calculate the output scan of the current scan.
- I/O Support: It supports up to 8000 analog I/Os and any combination of 12,000 I/Os, which can meet the requirements for the number of input and output points in various complex industrial control systems.
- Status Indication: It is equipped with four status LEDs that provide real – time status updates, facilitating users to quickly understand the working status of the module, such as running, fault, communication, etc.
- Compatibility: It is compatible with MS – DOS programming software version 4.2 or higher, but this software does not support any new functions of the module except for the additional LD program space. To solve the work – related problems of MS – DOS, the software can be rolled back to version 3.70 to meet the requirements of the programming software.
Installation and Use
- Installation Requirements: It can be installed by occupying one slot in the PLC rack, and the installation process is relatively simple. However, it should be noted that the rack jumpers must be charged; otherwise, the PLC may not recognize the rack or errors.
- Working Environment: The recommended working temperature range is 0 to 60 degrees Celsius, and the relative humidity range is 5% to 95%. In actual use, the module should be installed in a place that meets these environmental requirements as much as possible to ensure its stable operation.
- Expansion Racks: All expansion racks should be powered on at the same time as the main rack when the main rack is powered on. Moreover, when the CPU is running, the expansion racks cannot be powered on during the processing to avoid faults or data loss.
